Description
The rotational movement of the crankshaft in an internal combustion engine is not uniform. Why?: The four-stroke principle first brakes the crankshaft and then accelerates it again, causing vibration. This rotational irregularity is transferred to the FEAD system, causing increased load on all associated components. To protect the system from this vibration, INA created the Overrunning Alternator Pulley (OAP). This transmits the power of the crankshaft in just one direction, calming the belt drive as a result. It is now a common sight on the alternator fitted to many complex belt systems.A worn OAP can cause belt wobble and noise, which affects the whole FEAD system. Installing a genuine INA replacement OAP or Overrunning Alternator Decoupler (OAD) ensures maximum reliability and durability.If the OAP is diagnosed as worn and needs replacing, Schaeffler engineers recommend the replacement of the entire system at the same time, using the appropriate INA FEAD KIT.
